Hi and Merry Christmas to all,

I need some help please with a monitor for my new build. I've just ordered the parts for my build but I can't decide what monitor would be best. I've been looking at 24" to 27" screens, 1920x1080 and 1920x1200, 60hz and 120hz! But it's all very confusing :??:
My PC would be used for gaming (Skyrim, AC3, Far Cry3, etc) and lots of HD movie watching. My budget is £200-£250 max.
I've only gamed on console in recent years using a 50" 1080p LCD so I'm guessing any monitor is going to look small but very very clear and sharp.
So is 1080 or 1200 better for gaming and movies, is 1080 too low for a monitor above 24", and is a 120hz monitor worth it with my rig???

My PC:
3570k
ASRock Extreme6
8GB RAM
Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X 1Ghz

I really need some help with this please I'm so lost now :-\
Thanks

Get a Big 27inch screen. Will be better.

Or else you can connect your Card to your TV. I do with my card.
Your card is very powerful and its a good idea to do that and enjoy Big Screen.

Ok well a big 27" or even larger would be nice, but as I said I've been playing on a 50" TV sitting around 10ft from it so at that distance it looks amazing, but as I would be sitting a LOT closer to a monitor (2/3ft away) would a 27" screen be to big for 1080, would I need to go for 1200, or should I just go for a smaller 23/24" 1080 and get a 120hz???

27" would be great. Most run 1080p fine. I've just researched them in the 27" and have decided on the Viewsonic VX2770Smh-led. This sucker is a great ips monitor for 27". Has great black levels for ips, crisp display, a removable anti glare finish sticker, and almost no motion blur/ghosting. Colors are pretty acurate too. It is rated at 7ms refresh, but has no input lag and a great osd that actually works the way it's intended. Plus, it has a three year warranty for both the backlight and the panel.

Dell S2740L is a great display, but currently has no way to tame the OSD which causes heavy ghosting. It has a really glossy coating (full glass to glass display) which, I guess, they were trying to mimic the Apple monitors. The colors are great and crisp... as long as you don't move or turn the view with the mouse.

Other 27" IPS monitors for you are: aoc i2757fh, acer s275hl and two others whom I'm forgetting off the top of my head... do a little research on them if you want.
