CPU Fan: Volcano II
Board: Asus A7V133
RAM: 2*256MB Micron PC133

Yet another person feels obliged to wave their specs in front of everyone's face for "suggestions". Everyone knows you just want to show off. Stop it or else!

AMD 1.2/266, soon to be overclocked
ABIT KT7a-RAID
ThermoEngine w/ Delta 7000RPM fan
512meg PC133 SDRAM
Hercules GeForce II MX 64 meg

OK, I want to get a motherboard this summer for a computer I am building for college. The thing is, I want this motherboard to be fully compliant with the Athlon4 cpu when it comes out. How do I know which mobos will support this? Also, when will the first nForce mobo that supports athlon4's be out?
thanks

Many people are not happy. Most people are very happy. Some people have bad luck, some are NEVER happy. VolcanoII has a good track record. SEE MY STINKING THERMALTAKE VOLCANO II REVIEW HERE, WITH FEEDBACK!

You cannot be cerating until Athlon4 is released that the mobo you buy will be Athlon4 fully compliant.

The general consensus is that all recent (133FSB upwards) boards will support Athlon4. They may not support everything about it though - temperature protection etc.

If you want to be 100% sure - wait.

Since you mentioned price/performance...I'd suggest buying a much cheaper 1.0ghz 266 FSB cpu and overclocking it to 1.4ghz--plus the Volcano II should be sufficient enough to cool it down.
There are also cheaper Motherboards that are just up to par in terms of performance with the Asus (i.e. Iwill KK266).
For a CD-RW, the AOpen CRW1232A/Pro is about 60 dollar cheaper than the Plexwriter and PCWorld ranks it higher than the Plexwriter. However, it is only 12x in oppose to 16x.
