Crosby better not end up in New Yorl or some [-peep-].
Crosby in montreal!!!

Anyhow I know most american dont like hockey that much but thats OK i dont like Baseball that much. Footbal on the other hand is a really nice sport. But all I wanna say is that hockey rock and no sport can replace it in the heart of canadians and im glad its back.

Also thos players are rich enough good stuff they're making thing more even. And still 50% of revenues go in salary thats a lot IMO

I just prefer to watch a sport that is actually challenging. I find hockey to be, by far, the hardest sport to compete in.

Basketball? Probably one of the least challenging of the top sports.

No order, but these are the top sports I consider:

Baseball
Hockey
Football
Soccer
Basketball

At least a couple good beers and hockey came out of Canada.. more than we can say for France.

If basketball is not challenging how come the hockey players don't play it. It pays much more money and you get to keep your teeth inside your mouth.

Celibacy is not hereditary

Reply to dunklegend

Because most hockey players play because they like the game, not as much for the money.

That can be argued, but in a minute.

Most of basketballs players today are playing because that's what they grew up on and for the money. That can really be argued.. but basketball is full of thugs. Listen to them talk after a game.

Besides, before you can even play hockey, you have to be really good at skating. I can already run.. with a little conditioning, I could get under a 5 in the 40m.

It'll take years to learn to skate.

And years on learning how to play hockey too with all the rules. haha.

Now you look at the NHL lockout and stuff.. it was more about reducing the amount of games they played than the money. They wanted their money too and argued that.. but that was for the top players and not so much the younger players. They're accepting a cap of upper 40 million per team? Each team having how many players? 15+? The top player getting I think was 6 million.

For the love of the sport and not the money.

Yea, I could just scrape by on $6,000,000/yr ...

I kinda hope they cancel hockey, football, and baseball. I say they come back with an integrated sport. Just have a bunch of fat guys beat each other with bats on ice.

Aww, the poor souls. I don't know how I could ever get by on just a 6 million salary.

Really I never understood the attraction to watching sports. Sure I played football and baseball when I was younger. But watching it? I have better things to do. Why would you waste time let alone money supporting people that couldn't care less about you.

So, you could hit Roger Clemens fastball at his best? You could strike out Roberto Clemente at his best? Baseball is easier than billiards? Wow Jake!!!

Let's see, if I tried to score a touchdown in the NFL and failed ... good chance I'd have my amature bones broken ... but if I swung at any pitchers fastball and missed, well no sweat - just sit down and get another beer.

I could fall asleep in right field and perhaps not be noticed for half an hour ... but if I fell asleep going across the middle for a quick slant ... good chance, someone would put me to sleep.

Baseball is not as physical as football, hockey or basketball (which I don't care much for), but a bit more physical than golf ... but requires less "skill" ...

I like playing baseball, but absolutely refuse to watch it (or basketball).

I cant wait to watch hockey.
I actually worked for the montreal canadiens and people often dont know that these are business. Employing over 100 full time employee. All these people had to do something with their time while there where no hockey. So im sure we will see a really good show in all the teams!

Whats is sad is that some of these employees lost their jobs, all the others had their salary cut by 10-15% and they worked 4 instead of 5 days a week. All that because of guys who makes millions and that dont want to make less millions...

Pfft.

Oh and theyre 19 players. Salary cap will be just under 40 millions for most teams. And no player can get more than 20% of the whole team salaries.

Finally gotta like this one:

I play sports more than I watch... the only time I sit down to watch a game is either a play-off game in hockey, superbowl, or Ohio State occasionally..

I like watching hockey once in a while because you can see what they're doing and learn from them. Much like after our football games, we'd watch our game over to learn what we did good and bad. I use it for learning and entertainment.. while others use to it to look back on their glory days and entertain themselves.
I've seen some really cool moves in hockey and I've used them when I've played.. you can only do so much so when you see someone come up with something new that no one else has.. being done on a professional level.. you learn a lot. If that's why you're watching.

Only the best on the team get 6 million.. and they're generally the ones who are integrated into the team and help run it. They're the business. They keep people coming to go the game, they do the promotions, etc.

Do you even realize why the hockey lockout was such a big deal? They kept adding games to the season to the point where the players were not physically able to maintain that pace.. they were playing too many games, too soon, in a physically dominiating game.

Yeah, 6 million is rough living. But when you learn to speak 2-3 languages fluently, can run a business successfully, and be one of the best in hockey.. then someone will pay you 6 million.

A huge amount of hockey players are coming from very poor families.. they play and make the money to help their family out. Especially a lot of the Russia and Eastern European players.

These guys deserve to get paid.. I believe it was Yzerman who spent his own personal money to assemble the players league and the NHL officials together in Toronto for a meeting.. a hefty price for one guy to pay just to get a group to talk for a few days and nothing come out of it.

Hockey and golf - those are two sports that are played for the love of the game and not the money.

Afterall, they all went to Europe to play for far less money.. but they were still playing just as hard as in the NHL.

Breaking bones is the criteria? One could just as easily say, "Let a pass hit ya in the head, and nothing happens, it just bounces off your facemask. But take a high&inside pitch in the face and you'll probably get it busted up." Or a comebacker to the pitcher for that matter.

We could go on all day with comparisons like how like how that sleepy right fielder could crash into the wall at Wrigley without pads chasing a fly and bust up his shoulder. Sweat? Ever seen John Smoltz pitch? Dude goes through 2 or 3 jerseys a game, soaking em.

Football, baseball, hockey, I like em all. But implying that playing any of them at the pro level is easy or not challenging just looks absurd.

Granted that most of the american stars are very selfish. But I think that on every sport you have both type of players, a lot of the NBA players go and play in their national teams, and that's for FREE, they go risking an injury, just because they love the game and the honor of representing their country. Michael Jordan played his last 2 years for the league minimum.

I agree, specially the young ones. The old school guys were pretty good though. When the original Dream Team went to Barcelona, none of those guys needed money, fame or recognition. Even though they beat everybody by a big margin, they didn't humilliate any team.

I'm not saying that hockey is easy, not even golf. In fact if it was easy to play any sport professionally I wouldn't be an engineer.

Disabled list in baseball? You make that list for hangnails and sore arms, etc. Remember Ronnie Lott, he had them cut his finger off so he wouldn't miss a game - that's tough.

Don't get me wrong.. I agree with what you're saying. Though there is a huge amount of American hockey players who aren't selfish.. but there are always some. A lot of them host hockey training leagues for little kids and stuff in the off season.. they're all over.. they even have some local to me, but they're up in Detroit.

The old.. and when I say that.. 5 years.. 7 years ago? Basketball people were true sportmen.. Larry Bird, Michael Jordan.. There will be no better memory in basketball than Michael Jordan.. the guy brought the league to the nation.. He wasn't selfish.

What's his name college kid from Cleveland. Only work Reeboks.. Nike offers him like 2 million a year more than Reebok to wear the shoes in the game and he switches.. I think it was like 68 million to 70 million endorsement.

All for the money.. So easily sold out. I personally don't buy Nike.. haven't in the last 8-10 years.

I was really mad when they ventured into Hockey equipment and purchased Bauer.

Their hockey equipment is just as good as some other medium to high brands, but their pricing is insane.

I use the 20-100 dollar sticks.. their sticks can easy reach 300 and be all wooden, meaning if it breaks, you're SOL.

I don't care for how expensive their equipment is.. the quality isn't as better than any other brand name.

Reply to Riser

Yeah I know about the prices on the equipment.
It's not about the shoes, when I played at college (In Mexico) I had a 37" vertical but I never used expensive sneakers. When somebody was trying to bring me down because I used $30-$40 sneakers and they had some fancy $100+ ones I just told them: "yeah but mine jump more", and then they'll back off.
Right now I'm wearing some Iverson's but only because they were $30 and the whole store had 50% off so they really were $15. (I think even wusy would approve)

Ahh typical border junkie.. using my country eh? haha /joking.

Yeah, it's not in equipment.. In High School all these people had to have the new Jordans and these shoes.. they'd get mad if you stepped on them or something while playing basketball.. they're shoes. They're guaranteed to do one thing: wear out.

I have around 600-700 dollars invested in my hockey equipment, but it's lasted me years now. The only things I replace are my skates, sticks, gloves.. occasioanly the helmet. The rest of the stuff lasts.. just buy quality.. which doesn't always come with a price tag.

I wear adidas shoes. they're normally like 40-50 dollars before any sales.

I wore doc martins for a while at work.. they lasted 5 years and still looked good. But I didn't buy another pair.
I have some Polo shoes on that I got for 15 dollars on sale.. everyone loves them but they think I spent a lot on them.. haha.

You look at most high school sports.. and some college.. everyone has the best equipment out there.. or the latest and greatest I should say.. all this money and it really doesn't help.

At the gym, this girl who is competing in bench pressing.. has this 'special' shirt that is supposed to add 60lbs to your bench and she paid $120 for it. Apparently everyone uses them in these competitions. With the shirt on, she was able to bench 15lbs more than normal - which the shirt probably didn't help since she's been training anyhow. $130 dollars and it didn't even help.

People are dumb.. whatever happened to skill over equipment?

Babe Ruth was hitting home runs with a bat from the early 1900s.. a baseball from the early 1900s.. we have 100 years of technology going into baseballs and bats.. I'm sure the consistency of equipment has changed which makes it easier to hit a baseball futher.

My personal favorite.. Tiger Woods and good old Jack.

Tiger isn't better.. Tiger will never be better. Tiger doesn't compare to Jack.

Why?

Because in 1969 Jack didn't have 'oversized' clubs. He didn't have computers creating his golf clubs for that perfect swing. Jack had himself with the clubs given to him at the time. Take a look at a golf club from the 70s.. or 80s.. it's literally the size of the golf ball with a little extra space on either side. Now look at today's drivers and irons. They're huge. You can have a horrible swing and still have a good shot.

Equipment in this case changes a lot.. but Jack was still the better skilled.. Even this weekend, he was only 6 shots behind Tiger (didn't make the cut, but he's also almost 40 years older).

Equipment. Bah. It's skill people. Skill.

I didn't catch the name on it.. apparently it's something that all the weightlifters you see on tv have..

It's a very tight knit plastic type texture.. it's very tight so it compresses the muscles and causes a 'spring' when you move.. I thought it was stupid when I saw it.. but its also designed to keep your muscles warm like most other workout shirts.

I thought it was a load of crap.. and gave her crap about it since she had to rely on a shirt to help her out..

Next time I see her I'll have to get the name of it.
