Startup repair cannot fix problem and have no restore points will i lose files

Hello,
my friends laptop wont fix with startup repair, i have put the win7 disk in and booted from that, there are no restore points and all i can do is reinstall, is there any way she can get photos from it, before i do a reinstall?

Run a hard drive test in DOS...HIRENS CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive...

i tried that randini it says

this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. try using a recovery disk that is compatible with this version of windows.

i cant get the hard disk test to work

i start the laptop

press f12 for boot options

load cd

dos programs

testing tools

test hard disk drive 1.0

then i have to choose mouse driver , standard, alternative or none (i tried standard and alt already)

then it has options for drivers, i choose auto

then keyboard united kingdom

now im at access to port metod, autoscan, enter port manually or deault ide ports (1f0h,170h)

ive tried all but i have no idea, autoscan doesnt do anything

please help

dont loose your photos. you a linux live disk to recover them before you reload windows.

can you point me in the right direction for doing this please? it will work with win7 ?

Linux works by itself.
as long as you have a flash drive or CD/DVD's to move your Photos to.

i like this one but there are many, you can google linux live.
