I have 1.3Ghz Athlon T0bird and I run it with a standard fan and heatsink! AM I a fool? it does not seem to crash, I have FOP38 but it is WAY TOO LOUD! I heard that 1.2ghz are getting hotter than 1.3Ghz. My friend is gonna buy 1.2Ghz and doesn't know if he should run with standard fan and heatsink, he has FOP32 but it is WAY TOO LOUD TOO!
I ALSO HAVE A 1.2 ATHLON RUNNING AT 1.33 WITH THE RETAIL BOX FAN. IT RUNS AT 127-130 (53-55 CELCIUS), AND ONE TECHNICIAN I TALKED TO SAID THIS TEMPERATURE IS OK FOR THIS CPU. I ALSO HATE THE EXCESSIVE NOISE CAUSED BY SOME FANS.
if thats the only reason you could be a fool then no you are not a fool... if you run it with stock heatsink and it breaks youve always got the warranty...
you do not strengthen the weak by weakening the strong
I checked the temp of my 1.3 is 50 C. 1.2 is not for me but for HIM (my friend) and he buys one WITHOUT heatsink and a fan... he is gonna put standard one, but afraid that he will ruin it...
Why are people getting so stressed about it?
if its on properly,
a stock heatsink will keep the processor at an acceptable temperature for a time period exceeding the warantee.
providing acceptable minimum cooling.
it does its job at a specified core frequency & voltage
u really only need a specialised cooler IF:
1. you like extra noise
2. your computer is expected to be continually running in excessive temeratures
3. you plan to overclock
4. the computer is running critical apps and u want less risk of overheating due to ambient temps or a failing stock cooler.
5. you plan to keep the computer for a really long time
6. you want to brag that your volcano Mk IX with solid gold heatsink & 15000rpm fan screams like a banshee and causes your bowels to resonate.
