hi,
in XP Pro how can i do a reg edit to change the names of the running processes in the task manager.

instead of having a whole list of process i cant read, like
csrss.exe, alg.exe, em_exec.exe, ect...
i usually have 40-44 process running and i like to check them from time to time to make sure nothing snuck in there. but when you can only read about half of them, it gets a little tough.

thanks.

You don't want to mess with RegEdit (unless you have a lot of experiences) as it can render your system unbootable!

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

regedit isnt the place to look in. if you want to change the names of services, hex editing the program files is the way to go. but this is absolutely not recomended for sytem files. i have done this before with a little program that trys to access your a drive periodicaly, it was for a practical joke hehe.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

ive gone thru one day a few months ago and located every single running process that i had.

but if i could rename most of them then it would be much easier to just look at the list and make sure nothing else got in there.
so i guess what you guys are saying is that it really cant be done thru a regedit and i should just make a list and print it out and keep it handy.

what i would of like to do was rename them and then put something else in there name so that I knew that I personally checked them out.

Ok thanks Guys
