Hi,

I recently installed nethack on my PDA with MS Pocket PC and it works
quite well. But I have two questions:

- is it possible to turn the screen by 90° so I get a landscape
formatted display? Or do I need dedicated system software to do so? If
yes, which would you suggest?

- how do I edit the defaults-File? I tried opening it in PocketWord,
but I can't even navigate to the nethack folder. Next I copied the
file somewhere I can reach, but it doesn't show up.

I play on my iPaq 3650, but I don't think that you can rotate the screen.
Suggest to the devs, maybe they can work something out.

Sascha, nice to see you're still around, I used your spoilers all the time
when I was working on my first few YAAP's.

As for Nethack PPC, the sideways display might be nice, but I tend to use
the four-way button on the bottom of my IPaq 1945.

The configuration file is basically the same as the regular Windoze
version... I've actually copied the one from my desktop PC and am using my
regular prefs. YMMV, but you can just edit it using a text editor on a
synched PC.

thank you, but I've never been far away

....except that I wasn't playing nethack until some days ago on my PPC,
just can't get used to the hjkl movement on my laptop...

my newsreader (Agent 1.93, as seen in the headers) is not important
for that problem. It looks like an automatic on Drew's site, maybe
he's running his own newsserver and sends these information mails. Or
he copies mails to a webforum (what is "www.gamernewsgroups.com"?) and
this forum sent the mail.

However, I do read where I write and am quite unhappy with these
"information mails".


Because this discussion has nothing to do with nethack, I set the
"Followup to poster" flag, not to disturb the group anymore.

Windows Mobile 2003SE can do it out of the box
(Settings->System->Screen->Landcape mode).
For older versions you will need a third-party software that enables
landscape mode:

thank you. I have "MS Pocket PC Ver. 4.20.1081". There is no built-in
feature for turning the screen.

Does nethack benefit from playing in landscape at all?

I have never tried it myself. I don't think it will - you will
actually have less real-estate for the map since keypad will
span horizontally and take more space. If you get around
to play with landscape mode - you can try aligning message
window to the left/right instead top/bottom
(e.g. align_message:left)
