Okay, I am running Win98SE on a ASUS P4S333 (SIS645) with IBM 60Gb HD and 512 mem Corsair and P4 1.5Ghz. Norton Anti-Virus tells me (after I finally did Update definitions) that I have funlove.int virus in alevir.exe and Opaserv.E.Worm in Brazil.pif. It has been quarrentining them at startup and I have been using it this way.
I recently bought the ATI 9700 PRO graphics card and when I tried to install it, I get the error voice telling me "Computer fail CPU test". I since found out that Win98SE doesn't work sometimes with ATI 9700 PRO (do ya think they could TELL US THAT BEFORE WE BUY!) as MS is no longer certifying devices to work with any OS earlier than ME.
So, my question is: If I reformat and install WinXP (which I now have), will the viruses be removed? Or will I have to do some kind of deep reformat or run a powerful magnet over the drive? Any remarks can be considered helpful if they pretain to my problem. Thanks.

Reformat will not take care of "any viruses", but "fdisk" will. There are some viruses that have "nerves" to get into boot sector of the drive and stay there; and that will not go away with format itself. Being there, done that
..this is very useful and helpful place for information...
