[s] Almost drowned on Astral Plane?

Hi All,

I was on the Astral Plane, completely surrounded by summoned monsters,
when somewhere in the zillions of messages, I got something along the
lines of "The floor under you turns to water. You attempt to teleport.
A mysterious force prevents you from teleporting. You sink like a stone.
Your amulet [of life saving] glows." Then, I was placed some random other
location. I immediately put on my amulet of magical breathing and continued
(thank goodness I happened to be wearing an amulet of life saving, I put
in on on the plane of air "just in case").

I've never seen this happen before (I only played Nethack before this, not
Slashem). Which monsters cause this to happen under what circumstances?
Other than swim gear, is their any way of preventing this?

Thanks!

This is the spell of "Create Pool", and is a very very dangerous
addition to Slash'EM. Certain high-level spellcasting monsters can
cast it. For me, it pretty much makes the Gauntlets of Swimming part
of the required kit, to avoid just the situation you described.

Geno/ extinct all monsters capable of casting "create pool". Geno/
extinction may not apply to all these monsters, (consult your spoilers
for details) but this will certainly reduce the probability.
