Hello there,

I just wanted to install SuSE 7.3 Professionnal on my system and I encountered a little problem.
My HDD is attached to a Promise ultra 133 TX²
and during the check for hardware Linux detects no HDD.

I read about this somewhere but I can't remember where
can anyone help?

Thanks now I know how to proceed
I only need to find the correct driver
It seems as if all Linux drivers disappeared
from the promise site?

I think <A HREF="http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=87&category=All&os=100" target="_new"> this</A> is what you're looking for.
Make sure you get the one for your version of kernel. You can check it by typing:
<pre>uname -a</pre><p>Disregard my previous post.

I'm stupid!

After reading my previous post, I realized that you cannot check your kernal version using the command since you you don't even have linux installed yet!!

Ooops! =)

Disregard my previous post.

Hi! Sorry to barge in - but I've got a similar problem. I'm installing SuSe 8.0 Pro on a Promise SuperTrak controller. I've seen drivers posted on Promise site for SuSe 7 (thanx for the linx stick_e_mouse!) but none for 8. Am I just SOL?!?

I'm really not sure.
You can try e-mailing Promise's tech support to see if they are working on an updated driver(s) for SuSE 8.x or even if the 7.x drivers will work.

Disregard my previous post.

You can do it by telling the kernel that there is an ide controller at ide2 and ide3, by using a kernel append line. The kernel has drivers to handle it, but it can't find the controller (2.4.20 seems not to need extra help though).

See <A HREF="http://www.murty.net/ataraid/existing.html#APPENDLINE" target="_new">http://www.murty.net/ataraid/existing.html#APPENDLINE</A> to figure out what it should be.

I would recommend not using the promise/ataraid drivers unless you are dual booting. Linux Software RAID is a more robust solution, and you should disable the RAID function in BIOS to use this (but keep Promise function enabled).
