Oh no! Blasted computer won't start!

Hello! My computer, running WinME, fails to start any longer. It's gets to the WinME loading screen, and then stays there. There's hard drive activity for a long while, but it never gets past the bloody screen. I tried starting in safe mode, but to no avail.

I've seen something similar to this and it ended up being a ruined hard drive, but I was really hoping that wasn't the case.

Also, how does a chap go about booting a WinME computer with command prompt only? In the F8 options at startup with 98 I was able to do so, but not so with ME.

I'd try doing an install over the existing ME. By simply running setup from the CD, you'll often replace corrupted files in the OS and magically make your system bootable!
