ok, i should say that these are just my thoughts on the subject and havent tried it. maybe someone will post who has tested this. Since the A7V allows you to specify the fsb of your motherboard, and the 266 athlon refers to the maximum front side bus setting for that cpu, i would assume it would run fine at a setting of 100 mhz fsb (200 double pumped). you can run into problems with this kind of thing when your mobo does not allow you to manually set the fsb and clock multiplier for you chip. in other words, if your only option was 'auto detect', then no, the 266 version would not run since you mobo couldnt handle it.
I have the Athlon FSB266 1.2 GHz processor running in a DFI AK76-SN mobo. I have my FSB manually jumpered to 266 (actually 133), which the mobo allows for. I haven't tried jumpering it for 200 (100), but I will tonight if nobody else knows for sure.
It's no problem at all. Any 266 Athlon will atuo-detect as a 200 anyway, so you don't need to worry about it.
Just pop it in, and you should be ok. You might have to change the jumpers/switches to manually set 200 if your MB is freaking out, but I doubt it.
Q: Why did you buy a 266? For the future? Got a good deal? Got it from someone else?

My Athlon can beat your Ferrari off the line.
As a complete answer - yes it will run. By default it will run as a 900Mhz cpu (it has a multiplier of 9)
To run that chip as a 1.2Ghz (and have your system in spec) you must close the L1 bridges (see article in the cpu review or athlonoc.com) and set the multiplier to 12x.
Your board has the KT133 chipset which is only good for 100/200FSB chips. You need to do the above modifications to make it good. To support 12x multiplier you'll also need latest BIOS.

Sorry guys but I can't find a CPU multiplier in my BIOS. I've got 1 of the first A7V without sound and they don't have this feature. 'Tom's Hardware' has written a article on this. But I know the board can handle 1.2Mhz cause it is written in the manual.
Can anyone confirm me that I can put a 1.2Mhz with 266FSB on my mobo and that it will run at 1.2Mhz?
What about that unlockin' issue to go above the 900Mhz? I haven't got a multiplier? How can I than run a 1.2Mhz???
If you have no way of changing the multiplier on the mobo I can say (with a reasonable amount of certainty) that you can run a 1.2Ghz Athlon 266. HOWEVER it will only run at 900Mhz so you will not get the benefit until you upgrade your motherboard.
There are a few other options however, but your'e not going to like them:
1) Add the dipswitches to the mobo as described in Toms article. That will let you change the multiplier.
2) Cut and connect the bridges on the chip so that the multiplier is changed to 12. There is info on this somewhere on the site.

A7V only uses Dipswitch to adjust Multiplier, but it doesn't have instruction how to do it in its manual.
Does your mobo have Dipswitch (it should have lied close to IDE slots)? If it does, you can find the chart how to adjust multiplier that imprinted on mobo, and remember switches 5 and 6 always ON and JEN must be set at 2-3 position.
Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.
