My wifes system is a Presario K6 475mhz, 64 megs of ram with 5c4 system board SiS 530Rev A3. She does a lot of programming, Excel reports etc. What can I do to speed this thing up without spending a lot of money. I cant even get to the BIOS setup with this thing to try and overclock? Should I just add some ram? What kind?
Thanks,
Gary
Definitely add more ram, 64 is just sqeaking by. Try for 128 by adding another stick of 64mb PC100 SDRAM (really cheap!). Go to compaq's web site try to hunt down your motherboards jumper settings. I had a K6-2 475 a while back and was able to o'c it to 550 (FSB 100, 5.5x multiplier) your 475 is on 95mhz bus.

Yeah, adding more RAM is the cheapest way to improve your wife's computer. 256 MB of generic RAM can be had for $20 right now (although I doubt if the motherboard can handle more than 256mb, go ask the manufacturer). You can also opt for a K6 550mhz CPU for $34, (however I don't think your wife will notice much difference).
