Fuzzy resolution

Hello,
I have a hp monitor at 1920 x 1080 for a MacBook Pro. HDMI or DVI or VGA - doesn't matter. One theory is that refresh is too low (60 hz) and I need to move to 75 hz. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

Is the Mac Book Pro the new one with the Retna display ?

No - I'm thinking my only choice is to get one of the overpriced apple monitors. Thanks for your time.
