Somewhere in the Gnome King's Wine Cellar, Alicia the Valkyrie stepped
on a polymorph trap. Fortunately, she was wearing a ring of polymorph
control. Feeling unadventurous, she said she wanted to be turned into
a 'human' -- and ended up a guy!

A little while later, she entered "what seems to be an older, more
primitive world," and a little later still, she bumped into a troll
and was quickly torn to shreds. Oh well. It was still my best game
ever. Certainly the weirdest.

Ehe, it happened to me also once when I wanted to polymorph in a
dragon to lay eggs: my character was female, but I polymorphed into
a male dragon. I think you might have turned back into your female
form eventually.

It does feel good to go furher than you ever had before.
Are you aware that the "older, more primitive" level is present in
every game? It is a reference to one of nethack's ancesters.

Yes, I got that -- occasionally I'll play Rogue on my palmtop.

I must say that seeing my tiles change into ASCII (I was playing using
the RLTiles [http://rltiles.sourceforge.net/]) was a surreal and
strangely moving surprise. One of the advantages of being a newbie, I
guess. ;)
