My samurai is beset upon by several orcs, one of which is firing poisoned
arrows.
The poisoned arrow hits the Uruk-hai.
The poison was deadly...
The Uruk-hai is killed!
I thought all orcs were poison resistant, PC and NPC alike.

No monster orc is naturally poison-resistant.

No, only player orcs. Indeed, from my open suggestion list:
20000222 Orc monsters should be given poison resistance.
It's the oldest non-implemented non-rejected entry therein, and I still
have hopes it'll eventually make it into the game :-)
