I saw a bunch of ram sticks and the ECC ddrs cost more... what is ECC exactly..

forgive my ignorance pleez.... once again....

It means error correcting. In a basic nutshell, every memory operation has a checksum attached to it, which is used to ensure data integrity, and if there is a problem then the memory can "fix" itself.

Adding to your previous response... ECC memory is typically a lot more reliable since it can correct itself. However, since that checksum is added to every clock cycle, it tends to not be quite as fast.

And to sum it up (most likely not), you don't need it as a home user, it'll just degrade your performance. No real need for that kind of error control unless you're dealing with bank servers or something.
