I realize it will be slower as a whole, because of the 128K L2, but anyone else excited about the overclocking potential?
smaller L2, lower stock voltage, and I'm sure higher multiplier...
100mhz fsb, Celeron 1.2Ghz. 12 x 133 = 1596Mhz... 12 x 166 = 1992Mhz.
With a good board, good ram, I wonder if the PIII core can hit 2Ghz...
lol, I'm just laughing thinking about an overclocked Celeron kicking a P4's ass...
my prediction, Celeron will become the overclocking king again...

Independant thought is good.
It won't hurt for long.
The New 1.0 Ghz T-bird stepping can overclock all the way to 1650 Mhz. That's a 65% crown to beat.
----
Actually, some more reading on my part reveals that it can hit 1768 Mhz with an average of 1668 Mhz. I don't think the Celeren will EVER beat that.
<font color=red>Yeah, I took a crap on your lawn. Whatcha gonna do about it?</font color=red><P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by dhlucke on 07/30/01 10:31 PM.</EM></FONT></P>
The crown is won by % 0verclocking? In that case the PIII 500E wins. It will go to 1GHz at a 200MHz FSB. No crown for the Athlon in that arena. The average clock achievable for the PIII Coppermine is 980. Even at 975 the 500E is overclocked 95%
What about the 1gig AYHJAR 'Y's?
They went to an <font color=red>average</font color=red> of 1668. That's almost a 70% OC, and lots of them went to 1700 or above.
Check it out <A HREF="http://www.athlonoc.com/steptbird.php" target="_new">here</A>
Not as nice as the 500E, but better than the Celery.

He said he has a passive radiator system, I have never done a water setup, do you have a resorvoir AND a radiator generally? If you had ice in the resovioir wouldnt the radiator heat up the water?

No, the water can be pumped from the resevior to the cooler to the radiator. Then the cooler warms it up boyond room temp, the radiator cools it down to ~room temp, where it returns to the ice laden resevior. Works fine until the ice is gone.
Yes, if I was building a system right now, I'd have to get one of those. And an A7A266. I use a lot of cards and need the compatability, don't really care about 2-3% overall better performance with the A7M if it can't support ALL my equipement.
Here's the fun part-at 100% overclocking with the 500E (200FSB), an i815 motherboard can run the memory at 150MHz, which ordinary Crucial Cas2 can run!
Crucial CAS2 can run at 159mhz with CAS3 settings without problem even with fast timing parameters set in the bios. I did that with two sticks of Crucial 256mb PC133 cas2 ram.
I run a P3 550e@869 on a daily basis.256mb Kingston 133 memory at 158fsb CAS2(Infinion chips 7.5ns)It's my main computer.I can run 880 or 914 but at CAS3a big performance hit 50%,and my scores DROP drastically. This is a full computer not a test bed setup.I think if i took out the Cdrom, CDRW, Sound card ,Ethernet card, modem, etc... I could go even higher. But what good is a computer without these?????
OH i forgot all air cooled. No peltier or water cooler.
