This one felt a bit long and drawn out, but I thought I'd post it as it's my
first ascension on nethack.alt.org (and only my 6th vanilla ascension) and I
wanted to thank some other players for their accidental contributions to my
artifact haul ;-)

UglyNewt the lawful female human Samurai

obviously just converted a lawful temple to neutral. Thankyou, Sir or

The Wizard of Yendor (4 times)
Death (thrice)
Pestilence
Famine (thrice)
[...]
8 Nazguls

2 erinyes
[...]
117 killer bees

Genocided or extinct species:
killer bees (extinct)
wolves (extinct)
Nazguls (extinct)
erinyes (extinct)
4 species extinct.

Does 'extinct' actually mean 'no more can be created', even if some of them
survived?

Conducts:

You never genocided any monsters
You never polymorphed an object
You changed form 3 times
You used no wishes

The changing form was thanks to the interesting new rings found in a
statue of a mind flayer named Violist.

Other musings and grumblings:

No magic lamps turned up at all. This may have had some effect on the number
of turns I wasted exploring Gehennom, but then I always have difficulty
ascending in <100k turns.

No touchstones either, but I found enough glass golems to recognise eight out
of nine colours of glass.

Spellcasting wasn't a viable attack method, as I didn't spot a single helm of
brilliance, and the first robe I found (barring priests that didn't need
killing) was underneath the Amulet of Yendor.

TDTTOE: I had 6 * c!oGL for making a swift exit from Gehennom - and
only when I reached Juiblex' lair did I discover that they're not exempt
from the mysterious force. Still, I only succumbed to it twice, so I
expect I was quite lucky there.

Well, that was a good waste of a few evenings. What other lightweight conducts
should I be trying?

Congrats! :)
Now, genoless, polypileless and wishless are conducts I know,
but survivor? Does it mean that you never died in your game?

I think so...

I don't know, maybe vegetarian? It doesn't seem _that_ hard to me
for someone who has managed to ascend several time.

Or you can also be an elf, but I think you've already
considered that possibility.

I was hanging out with the cool kids in rec.games.roguelike.nethack when
chlorine got out a spraycan and scrawled the following:

Yes - no wasted "oLS. It seems to be filed under "attributes" rather
than "conducts", though, so maybe it's not that impressive - especially
if you're relying on the amulet slot for reflection and it's not really
convenient to switch just before you die.

I have my own mental list of conducts that don't really count (atheist
priests, vegetarian/weaponless monks, a few more in ), so ignoring
those, I think that atheist non-priest or vegetarian non-monk are the
next on my list.

Telepathy and other intrinsics are what puts me off the veggie route -
blessed potions of ESP are only in , but I suppose I could consider
the appropriate helm or amulet, while brown puddings and gelatinous
cubes are still acceptable for three important resistances. What can I
do to get sleep resistance?

Telepathy is something your god may grant you, like protection or the
Castle tune. A gelatinous cube may also grant sleep resistance.

As long as you eat it. Wearing it gives you free action, not sleep
resistance.

Note that you need to be an elf of at least level three.
