My archeologist hasn't been doing bad so far in this game:

I got a /oPolymorph early on (sokoban?), and turned Puppy in to Purple
Worm. Sweeeeeet. One mostly empty minetown later, I've got some
protection, but no shopkeeper I can price-id ID with... So I'm kind of
bummed by that difficulty, but not too terribly much. I figure I'll find
some way around it. I also got a magic lamp out of the deal, which was
great - most of the mines were dark.

Sokoban gave me a "oReflection, so I was hurting for a bag of holding -
especially as I was trucking around with +1 Banded mail, which while nice,
weighs a lot. But I was able to handle being burdened, what with the
Purple Worm - I just stayed away from all these 'c's that kept showing
up... My second dog turned into a brown pudding, and they *will* attack
'c's, and if they get hit, they multiply :) Maybe I should have taken up
farming... But I don't have a magic whistle, so I left my 3 Christmas
puddings in the mines...

I figured if I was going to go polymorphing, I might as well empty the
tool shed...and sure enough, I got a bag of holding on my 3rd or 4th zap -
so I'm *quite* pleased! I may go back to try for the magic whistle. I
sacrificed a chickatrice corpse (checked gloves twice) and got Snickersee.
Ok, that's cool. I really wanted to try quisennart with double silver
saber, but I can live with Snickersee.

Back in the main dungeon, though, things get even better! I find an
antique weapons outlet, and the owner is being obnoxious about my pickaxe.
Feeling my honor a bit sullied, I order Puppy in to settle matters with
the guy:

Puppy bites Echourgnac. Puppy swallows Echourgnac. "Burrrrp!"
Echourgnac is killed!

As I'm going through the shop, I stumble across Grayswandir! WOOT! Now,
pity that the guard captain in minetown only had a long swor....oh, MY - a
silver saber in the shop, too!

AC is -7 now with Dwarven Mithril, not burdened, have reflection, and can
go Chop-chop-chop! This is gonna be fun :)

Hey, if all you lost was the dwarvish mithril and the cloak, I say it
coulda been worse. With double sabers you should be shredding most
monsters before they have a chance to hit you. I'm lucky to have my
archaeologists survive to Minetown, so I'm envious.. heh.

Say though, if you found the polymorph trap in advance, did you step on
it purposefully, or just from typing too fast? If the former, what
would you be seeking to gain from polyselfing like that? Just curious.

You find a polymorph trap. You find a dart trap.

You step onto a polymorph trap! You feel a change coming over you. You
turn into a baby gray dragon!
You break out of your armor! Your cloak
tears apart! You drop your gloves and weapon! Your helmet falls to the
floor! Your boots are pushed off your feet!

<sigh>

And while I got turned into a woman a while ago, I'm a baby, so I can't
even lay eggs.

This is my first arch who's made it to the cuisinart stage, so I'm
thrilled :)

I'll give you three guesses which it was, and the first two don't count!
:)

It was a case of "I'm INVINCIBLE!!!!" Chop-Chop-Chop-POOF-roar?

Knock down my pride a notch or two?

It was all good - there was a spare set of studded leather not far away
(yeah yeah, I was playing a bit more cautious - I thought the worse AC
would sharpen my wits...and so far, no YASD), so I kept going. Then I
came across a bones file and explored OH-so-cautiously after killing
something and a troll...only to figure out that the troll (one hit to a
purple worm) had offed a wizard - ]oMR! Woot!

Several levels down, I found a bookstore with 4 books in it. Since I
became a "new woman", I got 18 intelligence (!), so I figured, I can read
spellbooks - no problem! One was identify. I've already got it down to
0% fail, and now I've found Ludos. Two-weaponing + magic protection +
relfection + low AC means I'm going to die from hitpoint loss and never
notice it :)
