I was finally going to buy my stuff today (with a money order) and then i see that there's some new athlon1.33ghz 266fsb. wtf!! there are only 2 versions of athlon1.33ghz, 266 and 200fsb, so what's this new one? i don't know if the standard has "stepping AYHJA" but now im confused about what to buy. i'm gonna be getting an athlon 1.33Ghz 266fsb with an ASUS A7M266 mobo, which one should i get?

If it's AYHJA or AYHJAR, then get it, especially if it's a 'Y'. They have incredible OC potential. AthlonOC.com did a test of 75 AYHJA 'Y' 1GHz Tbirds, and the average overclock was like 1.680GHz :)

wtf are you talking about? what does any of that mean? all i wanted was an athlon 1.33Ghz 266fsb and now there's all kinds of confusing bullshit! i am not going to overclock at all, the motherboard won't even let me. why is there suddenly more than one of a product that was only made one way? i searched amd's site for ayhja and came up with nothing, they don't even mention it so what's going on?

btw if i sound like a moron im just mad that yesterday i was about to order this and now there's something different, i just don't want to accidently get the wrong thing. if im not overclocking is there any difference?

It's simply different steppings and batches of chips. If your not overclocking I wouldn't worry about paying extra for a more over-clockable chip stepping. They're basically the same chip. That's why AMD doesn't differentiate on their site.

That's what you get for buying your computer based on color.

If you don't understand what it is and used for, just go for the one thats cheaper. There won't be a difference in your eyes.

Can;t overclock with an A7M266? That's news to a few thousand overclockers I think! You can overclock using the bus speed, same as us Intel users. Or you can overclock by manually setting the multiplier on the CPU itself. And if you unlock the thing, I think you can overclock the multiplier in BIOS. But who cares, get the cheapest 1.33 you can find. If you want to overclock later, so be it, simply up the bus frequency. If not, be happy with what you have.
The 1.33 is only available in 266 (really 133) specified bus speed. The 200 (actually 100) bus version is 1.3 (as in 1300MHz).

Unless they released a BIOS update, you can't change the multiplier at all. Except for on the chip itself, of course.

Screw it-I tell people to get a 1GHz AXIA B, so they can set whatever speed they want with the FSB clock. A 10x multiplier is nice, giving you 1333 at 133 and 1500 at 150.

Yes, yes, sorry, too many late nights fixing computers for a local shop. I'm the specialist they call in when they can't figure out the problems they have with Athlons and generic parts. VIA chipsets have enough trouble without worsenning it by using generic ram and cheap cards. But that's another story.

BWAHAHAHA! Thats why i won't sell any computers with any generic parts anymore. If I look around for good deals, I'm still cheaper, and I'd rather charge more than sit and pray that the one year warranty runs out.
