Looks like I will be buying one of those SIS 735 boards in the near future. Since I sold my old Athlon Classic or more exactly fixed someone elses computer. Thinking about buying a Duron for it as well. Unless I can get a very overclockable board then I will stick my T-Bird 1200 into and place the Duron into the IWILL KK266.

never heard of ECS before - I think I'll wait for a mainstream manufacturer board. VERY cheap though - $91 with duron 700....

I read the review though and it was pretty good. I'm just not in a hurry to jump on the wagon until a couple people fall off first. Once Asus, Abit, etc ships boards I think we're ready to go...

Never heard of ECS before????? Me neither. But there is a review of it:

They say ECS has quietly become one of the top board manufacturers, right next to ASUS!!!! Yup, read it, right on the first paragraph.
I have never played with AMD before, I have only Intel. But my friend (works at a computer place) had an AMD 1.1Ghz sitting on his desk for three months!!! Well he is gonna give it to me, and I hope it works. Time to play around with AMD.

Notice that a handful of vendors are making the 735, but that ECS isn't listed. Kinda odd.

Yeah I saw it too. But for sixty bucks? Can have a mobo plus a low end duron for less than $100.

Perhaps it is faster, but Chaintech's 7SID is listed as an MATX board! ...And since I don't like ECS's SDR-DDR DIMM-slot configuration (max of 2 DDR DIMMs), I'll wait to check out Gigabyte's GA-7SRX (ATX) or Leadtek's WinFast7350DDR (ATX).

Saying they're one of the top board makers is most likely their opinion. They didn't say that they're one of the top-selling, or that any polls have shown them as a favorite, they just say they're a top board maker. Kinda suspicious.

ECS delivers

Established in 1987, Elitegroup Computer Systems have made a quiet rise to the top ranks in motherboard market share. In fact, in recent surveys, ECS has placed first or second for Q1 2001 motherboard shipments, battling it out with long time market leader, ASUS.

http://accelenation.com/?doc=41
They where talking about shipments, but no mention of who did the survey.

rcf84, you like chaintech don't you! :) I'm gonna wait a couple of weeks 'til the mainstream mobos come out, maybe a Gigabyte, Asus, or Leadtek. Even if they aren't as dirt cheap as the ECS, it looks like they'll be under a hundred bucks. In a couple weeks it might be possible to buy a SIS 735 + Tbird 1.4 for under 220 bucks. That will be cool!
Add half a gig of PC2100 DDR RAM, and I'll be rockin' and rollin'!

Waiting a while is the smart thing to do. As for myself, I wouldn't be interested in an MATX board (Chaintech). Personally, I have always found Gigabyte boards to be very high quality, so I'm waiting for the GA-7SRX.
