Ok I just got a much better cpu cooler to put on my AMD T-bird.
1st question.. When I install the assembly should I also close the L1 bridges? And will this allow me to manually control the processor speed? My current set up does not allow me to manually control the cpu clock speed. When I bring the FSB up it also brings the cpu with it. The setting is at 10X.
2nd question..Should I remove the thermal compound on the bottom of the heatsink I have some Artic Silver that I will use instead If so How should I remove it? will plain alcohol work?
System is:
A7A266
1Ghz T-bird (operating now @1.1Ghz)
GeForce2 Ultra
300 watt supply

If it ain't broke don't fix it

If you want to overclock using the FSB only, you don't need to unlock the L1 bridges--they are used to change the multiplier. Increasing the FSB is far better than increasing the multiplier. Just stick with the thermal compound that came with the HSF.
