Hi,
I need a new monitor for my macbook pro. It should be 27 inches, and be IPS, while still having a decent response time.
My budget is 1000 USD, and it would be really nice if it had a mini display or display port. I really like the Apple Cinema Display, but it's not possible to connect my xbox 360 to it, right?

Thanks in advance

There aren't that many 2560 x 1440 27" IPS panel monitor available to choose from.

Other than the Dell there are:

1. DoubleSight DS-275W Black 27" 6ms - Not my first choice, since they have quality control issues.

2. NEC PA271W - This would personally be my 1st choice. I really, really like NEC's high end monitors. However, it costs around $1,350 so it is above your price point.

3. Hazro HZ27Wb - Only in Europe. There were rumors a couple of years ago that Hazro was going to attempt to make a presence in the US.

That's all that I am aware of and since Hazro does not sell in the US, you only have 2 other options (unless of course you live in Europe).

So.... If you really don't want the Dell U2711, then you can take a crap shot at the DoubleSight DS-275W and hope that you didn't waste your time and money... Or step up (and dig deeper into your pocket) and welcome to the world of NEC...

How bad is the coating?
I've heard people saying that it "sparkled" the color and made text fuzzy, while others said it was not a big deal.

The only downside to the dell is that it doesn't match my mbp :)

AAHHHH! Sparklies!

The sparklies are due to incorrect settings. Fairly well documented in highly detailed technical reviews. Even though the monitors are color calibrated at the factory the brightness and luminescence settings are still too high, especially for professional digital and video editing.

Honestly, I think part of it is just personal preference. I can't even see the coating unless I look specifically for it. It certainly doesn't bother me. Some people are very annoyed by it for some reason (I honestly don't understand it...).
