First of all, i put this in the cpu overclocking section which didnt help much. Probably cause people dont scroll down to see overclocking section, so i thought i'd put this in dis section.

OK, i have Microstar MS-6309 mobo,

a P III 600/133 and can overclock to 661/133 using
<CPU Host/PCI Clock (MHz): 147/36>

but when I try to use 154/30.8 (the next higher setting) the computer starts but nothing happens. I have to short the cmos and restart the computer and then it says:

CMOS Settings Wrong, CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad, and CMOS Display Type Wrong.

and computer goes to default 600/133 speed.

if you notice 154/30.8 the pci clock (30.8) is out of ratio when compared to 147/36, is that the reason?
or is it my graphics card (radeon 64sdr) or other components that dont like higher speeds?
i've tried all other settings up to 171 but same thing happened. (didnt wanna go to 200 fsb)
also tried to increase voltage from 1.65(default) to 1.70, but same thing.

After overclking to 661 and playing hardcore 3d games, the cpu temp is 38 deg celcius, pretty low for overclocked.

I also tried to change the voltage but kept getting the same message at next higher setting.

some of my other settings are:87.5/29.2
85/28.3
200/40
190/38
180/36
171/34.2
166/33.2
162/32.4
159/31.8
157/31.4
154/30.8
etc.

thanks

and i said in the OC section that your probably pushing your pc133 ram too far.
it too goes up with the fsb.

most pci cards can handle up to 40mhz or so... and modern agp cards are known to live with 89mhz or more.

try setting your ram latency to the slowest settings, CAs 3,3,3 see if that helps.

thanx,
i can set the memory to either 100 or 133 independent of cpu on this motherboard. setting it to 100 didnt work.

i'll try both cas2 and 3 (never thoutht of this one)

by the way I have LED diagnostic function (4leds) that can tell what's wrong.

when the above mentioned problem occurs, the lights are green, red, red, red which means 1000 and that means -->Initializing Video Interface.

i dont know what that means.

cas 3 should be more forgiving, but if it still crashes at 100mhz dont bother.
i was just concerned that the mhz of the ram was getting tooo high.

sorry... cant really help u here.

I dont have setting of 150, but when fsb at 154 my setting is 154/30.8 (fsb/PCI speed). The pci clock is very stable (30.8 MHz).

This chipset can keep Pci clock at lower setting to keep the system stable from PCI parts that dont like higher pci clocks, but I dont know if that applies also to agp parts(vid card obviously).

And ram can be set independently at 100 or 133 mhz from fsb so that is not a problem either.
