Last response: in Windows 7

I have Msi afterburner and it records in avi format..and to my luck windows media players don't support avi files or so it tells me. is there any way to change this from avi to mp4 or something different that i can work with? i don't have the money to buy a different recording software. The weird part is sometimes it records and plays fine other times it just shows an image that says avi instead of a thumb nail. this is aggravating because i get clips while gaming to find out there not there..

like i said the weird part is that most of the time it will record fine but sometimes i cant even view my recording in windows media player. and when i try to edit the videos in the Microsoft movie maker they get choppy but only when editing,if i watched them there smooth 50fps like i recorded them in.

If the video capture format is set to uncompressed (.avi?) it will create very large files which may make them difficult to edit with Windows Movie Maker. The other options I see for video capture are MJPG, RTV1, and VFW compression: not configured. You might try changing the capture format to MJPG and see if that helps with playback and editing. With MJPG there is a slider you can move to change the quality of the capture.
If you decide to encode your capture to another format you can use free tools like MPEG_Streamclip: or Handbrake:
