CPU Upgrade

Will a CPU upgrade help me?

I have a PIII 500 FCPGA 100mhz bus and I want to upgrade to a 850 the machine doesn't support 133 memory or processors I already have the maximum memory at 256 I put in PC133 that is backwards compatible but I'm not sure if the PIII's that have the 133 bus speed would be compatible. Anyway, do you think I will notice the difference with the 850-w/100mhz a bus as opposed to the 500?

You probably will. What motherboard do you have?

if you are sticking to 100 MHz FSB processor you are not likely to improve the performance a lot, about 15~20% maybe. that is at 70% MHz improvement.

your PC133 memory will work on 100 MHz systems as a PC100 memory. its backwards compatible, but if your motherboard supports 133 MHz FSB you might be able to run it at 133 MHz and processor at 100 MHz. many chipsets allow that.
