I just read here AMD is selling Athlon 1.33s for $230 in lots of 1000
I'm assuming that price is OEM US$.

Now I just bought a RETAIL 1.33 last night for $229 Canadian
That works out to US$148
Pricewatch has OEMs at $101 and Retails at $119

My question is WTF?

It's for lots of 1000. If you buy more than 1000, you can probably get them cheaper.

Where did you find a retail 1.33 for $229 Canadian?

I'm in Toronto, in the market for one of those myself, and that's about $50 less than most of the prices I've seen - well worth going for over an OEM!

It depends on how many units these resellers buy from AMD. The more they buy, the more they can afford to sell it for less and still be able to make some profit.

I feel buying retail adds security to the sale. I've had dud OEM's but I've never had a dud retail CPU. The article you saw may be dated. The way the market is now prices are dropping like flies.

To HELL with your damned cookie.... ptooo!!
