Hi there,
I have toshiba laptop (Satellite A500-1GL), Came equipped with I3-330m, GeForce GT330m and 4GB ram. After performing necessary checks i have found that my laptop supports First generation i7 cpus(not all of them). So i decided to go either i7 640m or 840qm.

The current CPU got 35W TDP
i7 640m got 35W TDP
but i7 840qm Got 45W TDP.
Both are compatible but i am not sure of that 10W TDP increase will make massive difference cooling performance or not

I7 640m got 2.8GHZ and 3.46GHZ turbo with 2Cores and 4Threads, 4MB cache
i7 840qm got 1.86GHZ and 3.20GHZ turbo with 4Cores and 8Threads, 8MB cache
which will be better for me as i am into games and video editing (Cyberlink power director 9)

What do you think should i go for i7 840qm or i7 640m?

Thanks in advance
Plus the reason i want to upgrade is because i am not willing to pay another £1000 for the laptop with these processors, whereas i can get hold of the processor for abot £200.
Cheers

I strongly recommend getting Sandy bridge notebooks instead, they're much faster, have more battery life and less power consumption.
But if you can't,then between the choices given,I would go with 840QM because tasks like video editing benefit from multiple cores
