Just ordered an Athlon 1.4 ghz and now my friends tell me it won't work on my mb (Asus A7V). Does it work and will it run in 1.4? Do i have to o/c?
thanks for a rapid reply so i can send it back fast as possible...
If you've got the original A7V, you will probably not be able to run at 1.4 GHz. Those processors are looking to run on the 266 MHz. FSB, (which is actually 133 X 2). Your multiplier is 10.5 to make the 1.4 GHz.
Your A7V only supports a 200 MHz. (100 X 2) front side bus, so if you fire up this processor it will only run at 1050 MHz.
If the chip is unlocked, you can set the multiplier up to 12.5 and get 1.25 GHz. out of it.
Also, you might get a little more if you can overclock the KT133 Via chipset in your motherboard, but my experience is these only give you about 105 MHz. FSB before the start becoming unstable. But at 105, you could make between 1100 and 1300 MHz (locked or unlocked)
