what would you do? cought in a delima

OK you sold your old computer to your friend. You gave your lonely cpu to him also. Technicly it would be his because he did buy it from you. You have a new set up however. You have everything but the processor but your cash flow has been tightend with school coming up. Now you have a laptop to do your work. so not a big deal. but you have hobbies like fruity loops 3 and diablo 2 (lol) with a touch of 3d modeling. Now you want to buy a new videocard and give your old one to your dad. Would you now A) wait until the athlon 4 comes out and buy it even though you may not have enough for your video card or B) buy the cheapest processor and later on buy your videocard and later next year buy the athlon 4?

sounds like a no brainer don't it? I'm thinking B myself.. hmm ....

Hey I did the same thing, couldnt take it anymore and went out and sold my shirt for a Tbird 1.4g... All is sane again.. Well when you do get the A4 you can sell that cpu easier if its one that everyone wants so let that tell you which flavour to get.(most people dont have systems to support big CPU's)

lol .... i got a duron 750 and 2 case fans for 62 bucks lol ... of course overclock it to 1ghz! (7.5*133 = 997.5) I still gotta try 150mhz fsb... not a bad price thats for sure!

well it was 66 bucks at mwave where i shop. I don't want anything fast anyway. The whole point of this is to get something cheap while i wait for the athlon 4, which i'll get next year! I have saved like 50 bucks and i can put that towards the video card i want!

1ghz tbird is 60ish and you can overclock it to 1.33+, durons not a good choice right now, tbirds are whomping it in price vs performance.
(1ghz duron is more than the 1.2ghz tbird)

My whole reasoning behind getting the cheapest processor out there is because one i'm tight on cash right now, two if i get something fast what would be the reson to get the athlon 4 next year? three i won't have the money to buy my video card. buying a cheap processor now saves me money since i just need a computer running and anything i buy now would be a slight faster then what i had before anyway (ie. 700mhz duron). See with plan B i get a processor so i can use my computer, i get my video card, and next year i'll have my athlon 4 at like 2ghz or some sick speed . I can either give away the duron processor (it was only 40 bucks so who cares) or use it as a backup.

My point was you can get a 750 tbird for about the same price, so why bother with the duron.

They do sell socket a tbird at 750, pricewatch doesnt list older model chips though. They would be roughly the same price as the duron 750. If you could get a hold of them that is.

In general, for resolutions up to 1024x768 you won't need more.
