The P4 2.0GHz my store got in for a display was the socket423 and all the reviews I see on the internet are socket478. Also the parts haven't been put up on our internal website to confirm which socket the P4 2.0 is going to be. So can you tell us which socket Intel plans on releasing to everyone with the P4 2.0GHz? If you cannot that is cool just was very curious as to what Intel was doing.

hello,

no I'm not raystonn but maybe I can help you. you see the 2.0Ghz part is available in two sockets formats, 423 and 478 here is a pic of a 1.7Ghz box in showing both configurations, hopes this helps.

ray if you can add to this or correct me if I'm wrong :), it would really help other resellers.

Hi,

the intel developer site says P4 423 pin version is avaiable in 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 GHz, while the 478 pin version is available in 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 GHz!

that means the 478 pin microPGA package, that are probably not the Northwood core processors are also available in 478 pin package!

or the Northwood core processors will debut at 1.5 GHz??? heard that the Northwood will step in at 2.0 GHz. so is this a overlap from 1.5~2.0 GHz of 423 pin P4s and 478 pin Northwoods?

So not all 478 pin processors are Northwoods after all!

Ray we need you!

the socket 478 from 1.5 - 2.0 currently is the .18micron Willamette core, the Northwood(socket478) will debut at 2.2 or 2.4Ghz if I'm not mistaken.

the only reason to bring out the P4 @478 .18 now is to ease the transition, you can buy a socket478 mobo and cpu cheaply and upgrade later on to the Northwood core if you like.

btw, I'm not raystonn.

He must be busy with IDF stuff. I knew that the P4 2.0GHz would be available in both sockets but I was wondering which one is going to be more available. I was hoping Intel would release the socket478 ones most and then release a few of the socket 423 ones to tide over the people that already purchased the socket 423 motherboards. The only thing that threw me for a loop was the fact that the system I got to play with was a socket 423 OEM system and all the reviews on the web are of the socket478 variety. So I am not sure on what one if either one is going to be more available or not and figured Raystonn, the Intel Inside man, could give us some info.

the two different die's use exactly the same core dont they?

wonder what effect that has on heat buildup/dissapation.

I'll respect your comments & opinions, even if i disagree with them, Provided you display maturity.

is the socket 478 version of the P4 already at 0.13 micron?

Anyone know this? If not, anyone know when the P4
is going s478 and 0.13 micron? and when the intel
DDR boards are coming out?

Intel Components, AMD Components... all made in Taiwan!
