Ok so here is my situation. I am getting a new setup. I am going to use both my Xbox 360 and PC on a desk. I can either go with one really nice Benq monitor (about $400) or two Dell S2440L IPS Monitors (about $200 each). If I went went only the one monitor I would get one of the best gaming monitors on the market, but I would have to switch back and forth between the PC and console. With the IPS monitors, I can use the PC and console at the same time without having to share one monitor. Plus, when I'm not using the console, I can use a dual monitor PC setup. I am aware that the response time is higher on the IPS monitors, but I am not really doing any competitive gaming. I saw the Dell monitor in stores and I am really impressed with the bright colors. It blew away the 2ms $250 Samsung that was right next to it on the shelf. I just wanted to hear what you guys thought about the situation. Thanks in advance for all responses! :D

I'm guessing the Benq is the 120hz XL2420T?

Your basically comparing a faster refresh rate (makes everything seem very smooth) against the superior colour reproduction of IPS panels and the convenience of two monitors (more on that in a bit).

Personally would go for the IPS option, I'm so used to multiple monitors that to go back to a single would be agony for me, and image quality trumps a faster refresh rate IMO.

Easy way to switch back and forth between the Xbox and PC would be to just hook both up to a KVM switch, with that running into the monitor. All you have to do is hit the switch and it will swap the inputs around so the other is displaying.

Benq monitor or IPS?
hmmm...that means Benq does not produce any IPS monitors?
Or did I wrongly understand your question?

What I meant was either one REALLY nice monitor, or two other less expensive monitors with a different type of panel.

OK...then..
Personally, I would choose IPS panels over TN panels.
I do not need 3D at the moment and since I am only a casual gamer I do not really need a super duper fast reaction time.
I do watch movies, edit some pictures and videos also play FPS games.
I prefer to have better image quality as long as I do not recognize any ghosting effect on the monitor (my eyes are not that sensitive).
For me, the new IPS panels are fast enough and cover all what I want and need.
They have a lot better image quality than TN and also fast enough for games such as Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Torchlight 2 and Tropico 4.
I am very happy with my current Dell U2412M (16:10, 1920x1200).

The question is...what kind of monitor do you really want..a really fast one and perhaps with 3D...or one with lot better image quality but not that fast...

I would prefer paring 2xHP 23xi or 2xLG IPS234V instead of only 1 super fast Benq XL2420T. (example)...I would even prefer only 1 Dell U2412M or ASUS MX239H instead of having a super fast TN panel...
But I do not know if this my preference will fit you.

Why don't you just go to some local retailer and see the monitors directly with your own eyes...perhaps also try them for a couple of minutes...see if you will want IPS panels or TN panels.

If flicking back and forth bothers you, I think you're better off with the dual monitor especially as you say that you're not into serious gaming.

I think the real question here is do you want 120hz monitors with low input lagg...

Or two monitors that look really nice....

I personally thought about this recently and I'm leaning towards a single 120hz monitor because it will reduce eye strain as many people have said.

And btw look at the samsung s23a750d... Apparantly it's a 120hz 2ms monitor with colors almost identical to IPS
