Delete research results

when you click on the start button and type in a search, sometimes it will give you results/shortcuts to files you already deleted. how do you remove those research results?


another question, is there a good free software that can wipe free hard drive space? something like the feature in CCleaner but wipes multiple times and does it better.

In answer to your second question, to wipe free hard drive space there is a program called Eraser, available here: http://eraser.heidi.ie/ I've been using it for years (in different versions) with no problems.

CCleaner can wipe multiple times.

Options > settings > secure file deletion > choose number of passes

It can also go over 'empty' space.

It may be as easy as restarting your computer after you delete the file or shortcut. Also, if you have created a shortcut to a file and you delete the file from your computer, make sure you also delete the shortcut - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-or-delete-a-shortcut

File Shredder 2 is a free utility that has a Shred Free Disk Space option. And its very good at deleting files and folders, just drag and drop them into the program.
