Hello, I have an HP 19" V90 monitor (P1350A), and Im beginning to have some problems with it.

The monitor is old. It was produced in 2000 and I got it brand new in that year. For the last 13 years its been rock solid, with only an occasional wobbling of the picture. By my estimates it has about 48,000 hours of on time.

But just today, I turned it off for about ten minutes to listen to some audio, and when I turned it back on, the picture did not come back. I tried some more times, but the picture would not display. After leaving it off for about 20 minutes or so, I tried again and it did come back, and displayed the picture just fine, as it always has.

Then about an hour later, it actually cut out while it was on, and simply went black. Turning it off and on didnt do anything for the picture. I waited about 30 minutes, came back, turned it on, and it did a strange thing; it sounded like it was trying to turn on, with the loud buzzing it does when its "charging up" or whatever its doing (this sound is normal for this monitor), but it never stopped "charging" up. It just kept buzzing with a black screen until turned off.

I did that twice, waited a bit, then turned it back on... and it finally weakly popped on, with nothing wrong with the picture.

Im wondering if anyone can give me insight into exactly what is wrong with this monitor, and if its something that is likely to be repairable by a certified repairman. Im guessing something is just finally wearing out... but what exactly is it that is wearing out? If I could get it repaired for 50 bucks or something, or even a little more, Id be very satisfied. Im a little short on money right now and cant afford a new monitor, and dont even want a new monitor that has inferior picture quality (LCD) to the one I already have. Please, no "get a new monitor" responses. Id prefer to salvage this one if at all possible. The picture quality is still great when its on.

Thanks :)

It seems like something is over heating the more I think about it... and once it cools down for 20 minutes or so, the component is good until it over heats again.

But what component would be doing that?

One other thing to mention, when it goes black, the front controls on the monitor (like contrast adjustment) do not function. So when it goes black, and if I hold down the reduce contrast button all the way, when the monitor is able to be turned on once again, the contrast will be exactly were it was before and not have been adjusted. So the software becomes unresponsive as well.

Another piece of the puzzle.
