Well, cheers for AMD for making a cpu that can hold 88 degrees. After I calmed down from seeing that temperature I took a look to see what was happening and it turns out the cpu fan connector on the Motherboard no longer works. I am currently connecting the cpu fan on the chassis fan connector. So the question is why did it suddenly stop working? my motherboard is epox 8k7a and my power supply is Enermax 431W.
I'm open for any suggestions.
Thanks.

Most likely the fan was sucking too much juice, and burned out the connector on the motherboard.
Let me guess...Delta?

You'r lucky you didn't have to buy a new CPU.

Get one of those 3 pin to 4pin molEx adapters and use one of the spare HDD power plugs instead, should have plenty with that enermax. That fan is probably like mentioned above drawing to much power for the motherboard to handle.

If you still want rpm monitoring, pull the yellow wire out and using another female 3 pin plug, wire it to the corresponding position and wack it back on the M/B. CAREFULLY.

If the header is burned, that might not work. But good idea.

I'm so glad my cpu didn't turn into a 120$ keychain or something. But is this like common knowledge? How come nobody told me to wire the delta fan to the psu when I got it?

Reply to Sihs

Deltas can and sometimes do chew the [-peep-] out of mobo fan headers, always feed the delta pure psu juice.

I am not sure but I think it's a delta. It comes with the global win fop 38 and it's supposed to be 6800rpm. It only works at 5800-6000 on my epox.
say, does this sh!t happen to other motherboards too, like Asus or Abit?

Reply to Sihs

yeh that is a sign of nott enough power. it was spining slow becuase it wasn't getting enough juice

Yet another example of high QA and "it can happen to me" post.

You got lucky in not burning out your CPU, but all AMD's are in harms way when it comes to HSF failure.

Even if the CPU still works there may be damage done from that high of temp.

Fugger you are just a stupid Troll. When will you post something of value.

Some boards (like my KT7a-RAID) can support Delta fans, but I recommend using a connector to a PSU anyway.

its happend to other people, but most boards do give a rating and a warning about the fan headers in the manual, I have a kt7a raid and had a delta running on it (also plugged case fans into the headers), I think they should come with a molex, I mean, if you dont know, then its quite normal to plug the supplied connector into the "correct" connector.

/me swears loudly as he hears this due to the number of fans he'd planned to fit to his new pc when he builds it...

(I WILL have my cpu at 30 degrees or lower with just air cooling even if I have to underclock it and move to the south pole!!!!)

Your nice new PC might be faster then my 286, but my 286 makes a better door stop

This is hilarious. The fan header that was blown by the delta fan is now working again. It's like a pc healing itself. I have screenshots of viahm running my cpu fan at 163k rpm. Right, my order of a jet nuclear fueled fan has arrived, finally.

lol
Imagine how loud a 163k RPM fan would be.
And please, post the screenshots somewhere :)

Fugger, would you please knock it off!!!
Yes, It is a Delta. You must not have read the directions. Globalwin recommends that you never connect the fan to the motherboard. Go buy an adapter for the 12 volt connection and you will not have a problem.

I almost made the same mistake.

lol
no actually it's not that loud. But I am getting annoyed from the steel bars I put so that my case doesn't get blown away.
I'm too lazy to upload the screenshot on an ftp. give me an email address and I'll send it.

I have a delta fan plugged directly into my Epox 8K7A+ and I have absolutely no problems, getting 6826 RPMs as well.
The fan is on a swiftech mc370 heat sink with a 1.4 Tbird @ 1575 MHz. my temps are 49-55 degrees celsius (49 being idle 55 being 6+ hours of seti@home) and the suprising thing is I run rock stable. Right now my uptime is 2d 21h 38m 36s, this motherboard is simply amazing.

Reply to Oni

Don't push your luck. My fan was also working great connected to the motherboard until one time it stopped and the heatsink turned red.
My advice, Go get the adaptor.

Reply to Sihs

It happened to my old FIC sd-11. That also had a delta fan.
