Hey, this may not be the right forum for this but here goes:

I'm going to upgrade my system soon, I'd like to order the components this weekend. I've installed various components before but I've never built a full system myself so I have a few questions. I will be carrying over some basic stuff from my current computer. The new stuff I am getting is:

processor (Athlon 1.4GHz 266 FSB):
motherboard (ABIT KG7):
case (Antec SX830):
ram (2x 256 MB 2100):
video card (Gainward CARDEXPERT GeForce3 PowerPack !!!)

My goals are building a fast gaming system for around $750. I'd like the ability to possibly overclock a bit if I decide to in the future, but I won't be overclocking right off the bat. My questions are:

1) Is the KG7 a stable board? If not there another that you'd recommend?

2) Is it worth getting a KG7 w/RAID if I won't be initially using it?

3) Would you go with something different for the case/video card (different brand of Geforce 3?) and why? This case has a 300W power suppy, is that sufficient for a bit of overclocking?

4) What processor fan should I buy?

5) Any good links on building your own computer?

Damn, that's a lot of questions. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Hey J,
I'll give you my two cents worth. 1) As far as I know, my friends who have this Abit board, love it. A good choice right now.
2) From what I have read they are making a new type of Raid controller card that will be much faster and I hear the add on PCI cards are better anyway........your call.
3)The video card is a good choice, but you should consider the full sized Antec with 400 watt PS....better cooling and stable power.
4) About the HSF, you should check out www.anandtech.com, he has a though review on socket A Fans, and make your own choice.
5) sorry no good links on building a PC.
It looks like you have a very good setup, for what you plan to do and a very easy to read post with clear objectives, GOOD JOB.
Peace Out........tile

I'm not 1/2 as smart as I think I am and less than 1% smart as I tell people I am.

You might look at "Step by step: Assembling the PC" here on THG. You'll find it here:http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/01q1/010115/pcsystem-05.html
