My friend is giving me a copy of Windows2k Server edition...sense it is the server edition...is it the most stable and reliable and most compatible? If not...should I just get Wink2k Pro?

I found out my dad's free advice was worth half what I paid for it. -Justin

Win2k server is only for people who want to run (unsuprisingly) a server!
You need win2k pro.

I run 2K advanced server as my desktop OS. It's basically identical to Pro, except having the extra software and tools needed to be a server. I simply disabled the services I do not use. Runs just as fast and is just as stable. It plays games, runs photoshop, renders 3D all just fine. So I would say it does just fine on the desktop if you tweak it.

There is no reason to runs Win2k Server for desktop except you want to use very high end hardware. Server edtion will not be more stable than pro.
