Will my current psu - a 230v - run an Athlon (probably 1.2 or 1.4), 2 hard drives, a cd-rom & a cdrw? My graphics card's only a Hercules Dynamite TNT 16Mb, which doesn't need a fan.

I see my other post still floating around......yes, Matismo & Crashman.....you've changed my mind.....!

It's likely.
But you might have stability problems and lockups.

He will have stability problems and lockup no matter what powersupply he uses, so dont scare him about his PSU.

Sure use the 230watt PSU, should work great!

You sure? Everyone else thinks I should get new one......?!

Why should I get stability & lockup probs? Are Athlon's known for this?

FUGGER is just screwing with you. The 230w PSU is a problem. I was barely able to run my 1.13GHz system on a 250w PSU. I recently upgraded to 300w and even that cuts it kinda close. Like you, I have two hard drives, two CD-drives, as well as a Zip250 drive. I have my CPU fan, GPU fan and two 80mm case fans as well.

I would recomend getting at least a 300w PSU if not a 350w or 400w. They can be relatively expensive, but you will have much better chances at a stable system with a new PSU.

Don't pay any attention to FUGGER. He makes lots of claims about AMD instability and incompatability, but can't back any of them up.

Definitely get better than a 230w (BTW, it's watts, not volts. Unless it's actually a 230v PSU, which would be kind of scary, at least for a US person.)
