I have a really weird problem formating my hard drive

and installing windows ~ Does matter if I use my windows XP or 7 disc ~ My hard drive will format then restart over and over ~ Also if I do with using my Windows 7 disk it will still show it trying to boot into windows XP ~ ?

Also I dont use the quick format ~ I go the long route ~ Once its reformatted I cant get it to install Windows XP or 7 ~ ? All it wants to do is restart over and over ~

My son was using it a college and it started hanging up on start up so I walked him through formatting and it will do that find I believe ~ Just want install windows XP or 7 afterwards ~

Any ideas ~ ?

  1. Can you make a bootable Seatools disc (or the WD variant) and run a full scan?

Also, if you're able, open the case up, and reseat the Memory and test it and if possible the CPU after that and retest.

While you're making bootable discs. Make a Memory testing disc/usb drive

    And give it a run
  2. blackmancer I will see if I can get the WD tool kit to work ~ It wouldn't before ~ Now I have it loading up to the XP window ~ Before there was no movement on the bar and now there is ~ I closed the extra cores down so now its back to being X2 550 ~ Doesn't seem like its going to load ~ Still stuck on the start up XP screen ~ Going now to try the WD tools ~
  3. Reset the MB once again and now its finishing the install with the XP disc ~ Will keep you up to date ~ Thanks for your help so far ~ I may need you once again if you have time ~ No hurry are I have a good laptop to do most anything I need ~ This is a system I build for my son when he was in college ~
  4. Got it going ~ It had to be were the ACC unlocked the other 2 cores ~ It ran fine for over a year ~ Maybe one of the cores went out ~ ????
