and installing windows ~ Does matter if I use my windows XP or 7 disc ~ My hard drive will format then restart over and over ~ Also if I do with using my Windows 7 disk it will still show it trying to boot into windows XP ~ ?

Also I dont use the quick format ~ I go the long route ~ Once its reformatted I cant get it to install Windows XP or 7 ~ ? All it wants to do is restart over and over ~

My son was using it a college and it started hanging up on start up so I walked him through formatting and it will do that find I believe ~ Just want install windows XP or 7 afterwards ~

Any ideas ~ ?

Can you make a bootable Seatools disc (or the WD variant) and run a full scan?

http://www.seagate.com/support/internal-hard-drives/consumer-electronics/ld25-series/seatools-dos-master/

Also, if you're able, open the case up, and reseat the Memory and test it and if possible the CPU after that and retest.

While you're making bootable discs. Make a Memory testing disc/usb drive

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

And give it a run

blackmancer I will see if I can get the WD tool kit to work ~ It wouldn't before ~ Now I have it loading up to the XP window ~ Before there was no movement on the bar and now there is ~ I closed the extra cores down so now its back to being X2 550 ~ Doesn't seem like its going to load ~ Still stuck on the start up XP screen ~ Going now to try the WD tools ~
