Hello I have purchased an Archos Gmini 400 20gb and have been experiencing problems getting the computer to recognise the device. The computer exceeds the minimum specifications, it is Windows Xp SP2 2.GHz 512mb ram. However when the device is plugged into any USB port it fails to show the device in My computer. In Device manager, it shows unknown usb device under 'Other devices'. I tried using update driver and selecting the to use the files from http://www.archos.com/download/dri [...] 122004.zip (extracted into a folder). This worked but while showing a new device under Under Universal serial bus controllers called 'Usb Mass Storage Device' and under Disk Drives a Toshiba hard disk drive it still did not show the device in my computer allowing me to Read/Write/Copy files.

Today i viewed the online manual and tried some of the windows xp usb not recognised steps. Firstly i tried.
On old computers, the USB driver software on your computer may be out of date. Find your USB chipset type by going to My Computer > Properties > Device Driver > Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers >Host Controller. You may have a chipset VIA, Intel, SIS or another. It is possible that you do not have the latest software drivers for these chipsets. For VIA updates, check out www.viaarena.com. For Intel check out www.intel.com. For SIS, uninstall the driver and reinstall the Windows default USB controller drivers.
I downloaded and installed http://www.viaarena.com/downloads/ [...] 59-L-M.zip (xp usb 2.0 driver) and it still did not work.

Windows® XP may recognize the Gmini 400 hard disk but yet not assign a drive letter to it. Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Then select Storage, then Disk Management. Within this window you may see the hard drive and be able to assign a drive letter by right-clicking on the hard disk, and selecting the option Change drive letter and paths…

I do this and assign a drive letter.

However, still no sign of the jukebox in My computer. Interestingly when i right click on the jukebox in disk manager and select properties nothing appears. And once
i close computer management and open it again the jukebox once again has not drive letter assigned to it.
If i right click on the jukebox in disk manager and select open i am able to browse the files. But it is slow and for some strange reason will not let me copy files/create
folders over a certain length:

This error happens when i try and copy the file whywontitletmewritelongnames.mp3 or anything longer than 8 characters. So i cannot name songs properly and i cannot update the firmware from 1.2.00 to the latest version as it renames the file when i copy it to the root with a shorter length.
Here is a screenshot summing up the whole situation: https://www.sharemation.com/supershare/goddamit.JPG
The device works on another xp computer without me having to install anything. Unfortunately i have to use it on this computer and if you could help me sort it out it would be much appreciated!

Thanks
