well it was yeterday when all of a sudden my PC locks up. i did a restart and in the windows98 splash screen while loading only loaded the bottom half of the screen. after this happened i went to the bios and saw that my CPU temp was around 96c - 120c. uh oh! it turned out the cheap fan i got with the CPU had seized up. i got a new heat sink and the system now boots no problem but for 1 thing. anything i try to do involving the internet through my NIC throws an exception. and i mean any program. tribes2, counter-strike, day of defeat, ie and windows media player. and i know the games work when i dont employ the internet. max payne works, as dose half life single player. what the hell gives?

is it screwed? ill find out once i install the another CPU in a few days
Edited by seanner on 09/19/01 07:42 PM.

If you have an integrated NIC the connection could have been damaged from heat.

Back to you Tom...

But Tribes 2 doesn't, so he needs to get it fixed.

well it looks like my CPU stood up well with only the fan failure. i installed a old hard drive with all my hardware already installed in the OS, and it work without any problem. the only problem i have now is i have to format and reinstall everything cuz installing win98 over itself dosent work
