Looking to assist someone attempting to install an OS to a 64bt notebook. User installed Vista Ultimate 32bit to a 64bit Asus laptop. Was able to get an ISO download and burned it to a DVD. Machine set to boot to Disc but first installaton failed. Now getting error message: BOOTMGR is missing. What is the simplest way to troubleshoot whether the issue is with the existence of the 32bit OS or an issue with the burned ISO disk.

use a genuine windows disk, and do a complete reformat and reload.

Actually moved ahead before getting the reply. Windows 7 home premium 64bit is now installed. Interesting problem is now seen. Installed Vista 32bit, then windows 7 home premium from the ISO after formating. Attempted to install defender only to find the message: You do not need to install this software because windows defender is included in windows vista.
Willing to start from scratch for the experience but would ask if there is a way to eliminate the remnants of Vista without a reinstall. The format should have done this.
