Hi,

I currently have a dell inspiron 1525.
with a dual core t2390.
2GB ram (2x1GB)
graphics intel x3100.

I am looking at a possible cpu and maybe ram upgrade. My intent is to be able to play H264 1080p movies, which right know stutter a lot.

My question is how can i improve playback?

If upgrading the cpu is the answer, which one of these would be the better choice.

T5500
T5750
T5800
T7100
T7250

if any. will i notice a difference?

humm but i see a 100% cpu load when playing x264 1080p movies, that's why i thought upgrading cpu would do anything.
apart from that, would i see any difference in performance if upgrading my cpu to one of those listed above?

You can try, but I'm guessing you won't see much improvement if any. Look for some reviews of your system or video card online and see what they have to say. The reason your CPU is at 100 is because that video card can't do any decoding of HD video and is tossing all the work on the CPU. A faster CPU "may" improve things, but probably not enough to make it worth the money.

Besides, for the cost of a new CPU and the labor to replace it, you are probably half-way or more to buying a new laptop anyway.

a yes but i would be getting one of those for around 30$ used and changing it my self, hence why i ask if it would make a difference.

Then by all means replace away. Without checking on a bunch of benchmarks for your system and video card type be hard to tell if you'll notice a difference though. Also, are you playing the content off the network or internet? That would also have an effect on how smooth it plays.

Keep in mind once you crack open the case and replace the CPU, any warranty you have on that system is gonzo.

If you're going to upgrade, try to get a T7500 or T7700. I upgraded my t2330 to a T7500 a while ago and my system is much faster. It benchmarks 40% faster. Of the chips you listed, the T7250 or T5800 should be the fastest and be equal in performance.

I am now looking into the option of buying 4GB DDR2 @ 667Mhz at newegg for 55$ is it worth the upgrade?
it would be also for programming for university work.
