Hi
have Palm fixed the treo memory issue where it ran out of space very
quickly due to a very high minimum memory allocation for each piece of
data ? (sorry, probably not very well explained). I will buy one if it
is fixed....

What do you mean by "very quickly"?

Quickness is in the eye of the beholder.

When they changed from volatile to non-volatile main memory, they had to
change to a new filesystem. That new filesystem has more interstitial
space, and therefore files when moved from a Treo 600 or earlier PalmOne
machine onto a Treo 650 (or T5, for that matter), require more room.

Since P1 will give you, free, a 128MB SD card,, and you can launch apps
from the card with any number of launchers, I do not have concerns about
this issue, and would much rather know that if my battery runs down, I
won't lose data. YMMV, of course.

Short answer: Not yet. Some type of fix is expected via a firmware
update.. but that hasn't happened yet.

You can install most applications so that they run off a SD card.

They _may_ require more room. P1 probably need to figure out how to
pack multiple records into the same memory block without
invalidating the existing code base. This could be by using a
storage abstraction layer between physical memory and logical
storage.

They won't accept the ID I provided... so the offer may be limited to
particular markets. It's not (yet) an issue for me anyway; I've only
had the 650 for a few days and no prior P1 data to transfer.

Call them at the number listed. Their web site doesn't accept many ID's but
their human operators do.

palmOne has provided an update to resolve the NVFS memory problem in
Treo 650 but its only for the Sprint network. Please check it out at:
