I see how to set up a pipe in the Virtual machine, but don\'t see how to hook it

I see how to set up a pipe in the Virtual machine, but don't see how to "tell" the PC the name of the pipe. We have installed 2 virtual serial pipes, called COM1 and COM2. Thanks for any help!
