Install OS with upgrading disk?

I'm building a new computer and I thought I had an os around. Apparently, I only have the upgrade disk. Figures. Anyways, is there any way to install an os onto my freshly built pc with the upgrade disk?

I'm a bit confused. It says that there's a way to trick the system to activate windows 7, but it says to go to the start menu and click registry. Does mean I first have to boot from the CD drive with the windows 7 upgrade disk, follows the steps, then trick the system before activating the code?

you'd have to, what registry would you edit if you don't have an os.
