I understand George's point-of-view in his news report of today. He's unhappy AMD's PR weasels have twisted minds and come up with shady plots to fool people in buying AMD.
But guess what. Are people buying Ford cars because they're the best? (rotflmao...) No, it's because model XYZ has "the largest cup-holder in it's category" and model ABC has an american flag on it's antenna. That's it. That's all. We'd all have have AMD processors in our machines if the United States were communist. But it's not the case.
Intel has three bozos touting the Pentium4 is at "the center of your digital world". (rotflmao) Intel sells. AMD's got the OC'ers community behind it. It sells less. (Albeit growing sells, don't tell me your aunt knows AMD exists, ok?) Yes, I'm all in favor of charts, benchmarks, education, blablabla. But if people were looking at charts, they would not buy Ford's cars, nor would they buy Sony tv's nor would they buy Cambride Soundworks's speakers, nor would they buy Chef Boyardee's cans. But guess what? They actually do!
That's because cars are not the average american's hobby. Neither is quality A/V equipment, computer or cooking. Do you know what Tamiya does? They do R/C cars parts. Did you know that? Probably not, because they have no point in hanging a Tamiya flag up the Empire State building. They're a hobby company. No weasels needed, thanks. Our market knows us. Is AMD a hobby company? It seems to me they are now (OC'ers know AMD, OC'ers buy AMD) but that they whish to be more than that.
Now, how do you get the average american to buy AMD? With charts? With benchmarks? I dreamt about that too. A paradise with palm trees, chicks, and everybody chuckling, playing UT and knowing Intel sucks. Well, I abandonned... Call it "getting older" if you will, but I actually did abandon that dream...
AMD is now heading the same way 43298753320963295798307 other companies have succeeded in America. With a marketing department. And I'm sorta glad the *finally* realized it. I've been cursing at them since the beggining for not having commercials on tv. Hopefully, I'm gonna see one before the end of next year. (Though, I don't watch much tv, so just tell me if they do!)
One last point. I do own shares of AMD. So, AMD, listen to me! Go out there and get people buying AMD by any f*cking means necessary!!! This is ***->CORPORATE<- AMERICA*** not some socialist regime!!!! GET IT?!?!
Hear hear, I stopped reading toms hard news weeks ago, it is just rehashed tech news(from the inquirer most likely lol) and it updates late all the time. Also lately it seems like they are using their news forum for lightly veiled editorials on crap, which is not the reason I would look at a news section.

I agree to an extent. I'm disapointed in AMD jumping on the marketing bandwagon, (the REAL marketing, which includes deception), and have lost some respect for them. However, the PR rating marketing scheme isn't near as bad as what Intel is doing.
Whats interesting griz, is that the pr system is based (according to amd) on the speed of the tbird, which is a lot different than basing it on the p4. I dont mind the pr rating system as long as the mhz is mentioned as well, or can easily be found out. Look at it this way. If you dont know enough about computers to know the true mhz of the athlon xp, you probably are just the person pr ratings were designed to save from buying overpriced underpowered p4's.

Totally agree. PR is great for the idiots, and if the MHz can be found easily, then those who know how to find them are the ones who need to know em. Go AMD. btw, I don't find that Sony is a bad company- why is it disliked? And hwy would America have to be communist for AMD to be market leader? (Not that I have anything against communism, coming from such a country and all. Actually, if it were true communism, it'd be great, however, since there is no such thing b/c human nature, then communism isn't good. B/c of human nature, I liek capitalism better, but in theory, communism sounds better. And no, I am not a communist.)
no, what's interesting is that a bunch of AMD pups like you are believing AMD's outright lies, they came up with those #'s based on P4's clock speeds, no one can deny that!
I mean if Intel came up with a new core that at 1GHz runs faster than a XP1800+ wtf would that say?
"<b>AMD/VIA!</b>...you are <i>still</i> the weakest link, good bye!"
I can deny it meltdown, the xp1800 kicks the crap out of the p4 2ghz, can you deny that? They would have called it the xp2000 if it were based on p4 performance, you think the ceo of AMD whom despises Intel would pull punches at a time like this. LOL.
Run along little Troll.

>They would have called it the xp2000 if it were based on p4 performance
but they didn't, you jackass! the AMD model numbers are refering to Intel's Pentium 4 clock speeds, AMD and AMD resellers will defraud their customer base. they don't directly say so because that would lead to FTC scrutiny.
"<b>AMD/VIA!</b>...you are <i>still</i> the weakest link, good bye!"
I don't like Sander s for that reason. I mean to despise your competitor simply because they are more succesful. I mean one reads all the time of Sanders slaging Intel of at AMD events. Outside the computer Industry wher does this happen. Goldman Sachs didn't start hurling invective at Merril Lynch when they dropped from the top slot. BMW and Mercedes don't sling mud, Airbus and Boeing are not in the habbit of waving crass verbiage around. Some say Sanders is a "colourful character", I just think that sort of thing is crass, boardering on childish and just unprofessional.
It is the sort of thing that FUGGER and MELTDOWN do when they can't win an arguement.
Sorry, but thats the way I feel, at the end of the day I think it is a good thing if there is mutual repect between both parties.
There is no argument between me and meltdown, he claims that amd's pr ratings are based on p4's clockspeed. AMD has stated that it is not, anything otherwise is just his bs oppinion. I pointed out that if amd wanted to use the p4 speed as a comparision, the 1.53ghz athlon xp would be called pr 2000 and not pr 1800, that is all.
