You may recall I said "I am still waiting for my first crash" a few weeks after I got my SiS735 board.
Well, it finally did happen. My ECS K7S5A crashed for the first time.. ugly crash as well, blue screen of death with some reference to atapi.sys while playing RTCW.
To put things in perspective, that was after 5 weeks, running 24h/24h Seti@home / Adobe Premiere DV editing and playing Return To castle Wolfenstein on an overclocked Geforce MX on windows XP beta (build 2505).
Man, I gotta love this board.... dirt cheap, very fast, and I'd still say rockstable. I can live with one crash a month on a beta OS with a heavily overclocked video card.
One footnote though, ECS seems to have a more than average DOA rate. Some say even in excess of 10% RMA. IF you look at the board here:
http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbc [...] =forum&f=4 you will see quite a few users that had to RMA it, but then ended up with rockstable platform.. If you're not willing to take the gamble, it might pay off to wait for a SiS735 board from abit, asus or MSI & co.

wow man, you raise an eyebrow at ECS while refering to their RMA/DOA rate, but you pups like take it with a smile from AMD which has a far greater RMA rate that usually scales up in line with their clock freq's.
"<b>AMD/VIA!</b>...you are <i>still</i> the weakest link, good bye!"
I have built five systems with this board so far without any major problems and only one small one on my first build. As for ECS's rma rate o this board I think in part in can be explained by the disproportinate amount of first time builders that are attempting there first computer with this board.

Maybe.. though I doubt it. Wouldnt explain why these systems do work after getting a replacement. But hey, at such a price, you can buy 2 and still be cheaper of than a comparable KT266A board..

I just got the ecs board(building a computer for a friend) and it wont boot but once every 10 tries.(have to unplug to make it work) clearing cmos dosent help. Sometimes it dosent see my cdrom, other times it does. I hate this board!
Athlon mp and other websites say I have to unlock the processors voltage to make it work, so I will try that in a little while.(after dinner). If not that swap psu, thats all I know how to to. If it dont work, returning to frys!

THe ECS board seems picky about the PSU. Why dont you try the PSU of your own machine (wich will be better I presume) ?
Other than that, I'd have a look at the jumpers enabling "keyboard power on". These are pretty confusing, and appear to be preconfigured incorrectly (disable it on the board AND in the Bios).
If that doesnt help, RMA it.. and God forbid, if another sample does work, it really seems as if ECS' quality control is non existing.. but lets not jump to conclusions; I've built 3 machines with this board until now, and I have seen ZERO issues, and perfect stability (3x with Enermax PSU though). Keep us posted..

Im just pissed cause I put it together and the guy came over without calling thinking it would be done, and he had the pleasure of watching me turn it on and off and jiggle wires for an hour before giving up and going home.
how embarassing!
I think I should work on it right now!

Yes, I sure think.. what a wealth of information. Look at these <b>latest </b>articles:
