At least that's what Apple says, regarding their opensource <A HREF="http://www.opensource.apple.com/projects/darwin/1.4/release.html" target="_new">Darwin OS</A>
"Known to not be supported: All AMD and VIA based systems."
AMD better get plenty of bannas and coffee to get those monkeys working on this pronto!
"<b>AMD/VIA!</b>...you are <i>still</i> the weakest link, good bye!"
I once had a 5x86-133 with a mac sofware emulator. Wow was that slow! Imagine my surprise when I plug this thing in and the first thing I hear is the apple "bing" come out of the speeker!
Meltdown, why dont you learn to code and then release some apps with archaic mmx instructions that no modern processor can run, then you could make as many incompatable pieces of software as your twisted little mind can dream up!
Go away troll.

I Don't think he realizes that REALLY AMD is supported, but MAC/Darwin decided not to code anything for any AMD Chipset......Socket 7 shoudl work fine, and its not the PROCESSORS fault DUMB BASS = FISH, go troll along somewhere else......

Whats the big deal AMD has never ever been officially supported my Microsoft either that also includes XP and Windows 2002 Advanced Server and Data Base, so whats the big deal?

And try using that little "Edit" button next time. Quit taking up more space with your useless garbage.
Also, try actually showing us a mainsteam, highly used app that won't run on an AMD/Via system. Do you really have to point out the most obscure, unused, and pointless products?
Have you ever tried cooking an egg on your HSF? Tasty.
The only thing AMD's products couldn't support is my roommates fat a$$. Intel and AMD are BOTH backwards compatible. The only thing that i can think of that can cause trouble is SSE2 that is not on the Athlon MP (Still better than XP!!!). Now, who writes SSE2 code? Anyone? Right..
Chpsets? Oh yeah, give me one good reason you wouldn't be able to run old soft on new hard? Memory addressing should be fine etc...
Now as for writing code that runs on Macs: you'd have to bend over arse backwards to make it work on a PC. But that really doesn't bug me very much: most software is made first for the pc and then redone for the mac.
As for the Darwin OS... eh, i haven't seen it yet. Red hat 6.2 recompiled for HPT370 works fine for me.
If i missed something feel free to flame someone else (NOT ME!!) >:]
<font color=blue>I for one run Quake 3 on a P133(No MMX)</font color=blue>I have no affiliatioin w/ Intel
Now who said that? AMD is not 100% compatible, AMD still doesn't have SSE2. Pretty soon the question will be <b>if Intel is 100% AMD compatible</b>. If Intel keeps up there current progress, VIA will be their new boss.

troll
1. v.,n. [From the Usenet group
alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the
post itself. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies"
which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of
fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a
bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of
newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than
they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and
experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't
fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See also YHBT. 2.
n. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts
specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup,
discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy
someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the
fact that they have no real interest in learning about the topic at
hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly
creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form
of life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll."
Compare kook. 3. n. [Berkeley] Computer lab monitor. A popular
campus job for CS students. Duties include helping newbies and
ensuring that lab policies are followed. Probably so-called because
it involves lurking in dark cavelike corners.
Some people claim that the troll (sense 1) is properly a narrower category
than flame bait, that a troll is categorized by containing some assertion that is wrong but not overtly controversial. See
also Troll-O-Meter.
The use of `troll' in either sense is a live metaphor that readily
produces elaborations and combining forms. For example, one not infrequently sees the warning "Do not feed the troll" as part
of a followup to troll postings.
